Beach to Bay Guide Service is a year-round light tackle and fly charter service guided by Captain Steve Mason. Our goal is to have fun, catch fish and provide a memorable experience that will leave you coming back for more! Captain Steve's patience and experience support his ability to find and follow the fish as they move. Throughout the seasons Captain Steve will show you some of the best fishing the Chesapeake Bay and surrounding watershed has to offer. This region is beautiful, unique and has the ability to 'set the hook' making anglers from all over fall in love with its bounty. Regardless of your skill level you will find that your trip aboard the Linesider will not disappoint.
The Chesapeake Bay was formed nearly 12,000 years ago when glaciers melted and flooded the Susquehanna River Valley, it is 200 miles long from its northern headwaters in the Susquehanna River to its outlet in the Atlantic Ocean. Home to more than 17 million people and 3,600 species of plants and animals, the Chesapeake Bay watershed is truly an extraordinary place. Stretching across 6 states and Washington DC, the Bay never ceases to amaze with its rich history, vital economic importance and astounding beauty. The Chesapeake Bay is the largest estuary in the United States and the third largest in the world, it supports 348 species of finfish and 173 species of shellfish and produces more than 500 million pounds of seafood harvest each year. The Bay is famous for its Rockfish, the regional name for Striped Bass. Once on the verge of extinction, Striped Bass have made a significant comeback thanks to legislative action that allowed the species to re-populate.
Captain Steve was raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland where his interest and obsession with the water was fueled at a very early age. He is a third generation Captain who has been navigating the waters of Maryland and Virginia's Eastern Shore since he was 8 years old. As much as he enjoys catching fish, he enjoys putting people on fish more. He earned his Master Captain’s license in the Fall of 2016 and it was shortly after this that the vision for Beach to Bay Guide Service was born. His dream has always been to turn his passion into a business affording him the opportunity to share his knowledge and empower others. Although he spends most of his time on the water and with his family, he has served as a career Firefighter since 2009.
Captain Steve’s vision is to turn Beach to Bay Guide Service into a thriving business that not only provides an exemplary fishing experience but also provides education and insight into the fishery itself. He is continuously expanding upon his knowledge of migration patterns, the fishery and the watershed. In his ‘free’ time he enjoys hunting, tying custom flies, reading and exploring the area in which we live.
